Goodbye of the SuSTowns Project at the Closing Conference in Pescoconstanza, Italy

The middle of June 2022 was very eventful for the partners of SuSTowns project as we attended the final conference of the SuSTowns project, which took place in Pescoconstanza, Italy. The project partners presented the results of the project from the individual pilot areas.

With the last day of June 2022, we had to say farewell to the SuSTowns project - Enhancing SUStainable Tourism Attraction in small fascinating med TOWNS


The SuSTowns project addressed the problem of solving seasonal tourist burdens in small Mediterranean towns, with pilot areas in seven European countries. The key goal of the project was to create an environment that would be interesting for tourists throughout the calendar year, while at the same time the principles of sustainable tourism would be taken into account. The project lasted from November 2019 to June 2022, in cooperation with ten partners from seven counties - Italy, Spain, Greece, Albania, Croatia, Portugal and Slovenia.


Many valuable outputs we achieved during the duration of the project. 

Action plans: dedicated to the pilot areas of the partners, with customized solutions for every location and environment.   or  

Tourist packages: based on the principles of sustainable tourism, that included all the aspects of local environment - from mobility, accommodations, food supplies and gastronomic experience.

Newsletters: were sent out at multiple occasions to recipients all over in more that 7 countries from Mediterranean area, and are available here or

Closing Conference in Pescoconstanza, Italy 


From June 13th to 17th, 2022, the final conference of the SuSTowns project was held in Pescoconstanzo, Italy where all project partners gathered. We discussed project achievements, implemented activities, raising awareness of the importance and positive impacts of sustainable tourism in the pilot areas of the project. We also touched on new challenges in the field of sustainable tourism that appeared with the Covid-19 epidemic and looked for possible solutions consistent with the goals and mission of the project.

We presented examples of good practices, capitalization of the results of projects implemented by the partners, promoting a comprehensive policy model geared towards the regional, national and international tourism authorities, exchanged experiences and opinions about the future of sustainable tourism in the pilot areas of the project and beyond.


The municipality of Pescocostanzo is located in the province of L'Aquila in the Italian region of Abruzzo and is one of the pilot areas of the partner I Borghi Piu' Belli D'Italia. It is also a tourist destination that attracts people from all over Italy and Europe due to its landscape and environment.
