Sustainable Tourism in Lagos From Policies to Action Seminar

At the seminar we will present the results of the project obtained so far and collect suggestions to move forward with local and regional initiatives that enhance local development and stregthen this effort to adapt and change.

The University of Algarve has been developing in Lagos, since 2020, an INTERREG-MED project, SUSTOWNS, which aims to promote a more sustainable tourism in small coastal towns of great historical value, small coastal islands and small inland towns, along the Mediterranean basin, a project that ends during this year.

With climate change, the pandemic crisis and geopolitical conflicts, the perception that we live in times of uncertainty and turmoil that have an impact on tourism has increased, making it necessary to act in our territories to make them more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.

All this context reinforces the need to reflect on what affects a tourist destination like ours, and to debate, in a broadly participatory way, what guidelines and measures should be taken for the city and for the tourism sector, considering the local dimension and its articulation with the region and the country's priorities.

Thus, here is our challenge to the city and its community, in particular the tourism sector and the main economic activities, the cultural and educational agents, the local politicians, the municipality technicians, the non-governmental organisations, to take part in the Seminar, whose detailed program we attach in the link below, to be held on April 27, at the Hotel Tivoli Lagos.

We will present the results of the project obtained so far - an action plan for sustainable tourism at local level, strategic lines for green promotion and new ideas for sustainable and inclusive tourism products. This seminar also aims to collect testimonials and suggestions to move forward with local and regional initiatives that enhance local development and strengthen this effort to adapt and change.

We count on your presence and active participation. Registration and consultation of the program can be made through the following link (https://www.lagosempreendedor.com/pt/seminario-sustowns).
